General

If you register to be able to download documents and/or software or if you contact us through this web site, Abstract Solutions may from time to time contact you with information about our products and services and to enquire about your experiences with the resources you have downloaded.

We also use recorded information to help with debugging download or access problems, to identify possible abuse and to gather statistics for the purposes of improving the web site.

With one exception, Abstract Solutions will not sell, lend or give the information you provide, or any information we collect about you, to any third parties.

The exception to this is in respect of Abstraction Solutions being an IBM Business Partner and Reseller. If you make a specific enquiry regarding IBM products or, through interaction with you, we establish your interest in IBM products, we may discuss your requirements with IBM or its representatives and may pass your contact details to them.

Further, if you navigate to the sections of this web site under:

you will be entering a syndicated marketing component provided by IBM.  This section of the site displays a panel that  has a distinctive IBM look and feel. Any information that you enter while in that section of the site will be visible to both Abstract Solutions and IBM. However, IBM will not have visibility of any of the information we collected from you in the remainder of the Abstract Solutions site.

Registration

To be able to download documents or software from this web site you must first register.  In the registration process you choose a username and password that you can subsequently use to login to the site.  Once logged in, you can then browse and download documents and, if authorised, software.

Passwords

During registration, you should choose a suitable password that you can remember. Your password will be returned back to you in plain text in a confirmation email, please keep this for your reference. Your chosen password is only stored by us in an encrypted form and so the plain text version will not be accessible to Abstract Solutions staff. If you forget your password, our staff will only be able to reset the password to a new one.

Email

Registration for document/software download requires an email address to complete.  We may use this e-mail address for the following purposes:

  • On completion of your registration, to send you an automatic confirmation e-mail containing a link that enables you to activate your account. 
  • If you have selected "Receive update emails" in your profile, to inform you when new releases and updates to your products are available.  This feature can be disabled at any time by changing your user profile settings. 
  • For the purposes described in "General" described above. 

Use of the "Contact Us" form requires an e-mail address to complete.  We may use this e-mail address for the following purposes:

  • To reply to you regarding the matter about which you have contacted us. 
  • For the purposes described in "General" described above.

Cookies

Note: This section describes the use of cookies on the Abstract Solutions web site. For a description of the use of cookies in the syndicated IBM content on this site, please see the relevant section below.

Cookies are used on this website only to maintain user session information. That is, when you visit our web site  we create and  maintain a cookie that we use to identify you when you visit each page. Unless you login using a registration that you have previously made this cookie contains only your IP address and date/time information. If you login, the cookie contains your username and is then used to ensure that when you visit pages with restricted content (such as the document/software download pages) you are given full access to everything to which you are entitled.

The cookie is destroyed when you end your browser session.

We do not exchange cookie information with any third party.

Information we gather about you

In the course of your interaction with this web site we gather some information about you for the purposes discussed above. In total, the information we record is as follows:

  • During visits to the site without logging in, in common with all web sites, we log your IP address and the pages you visited. We use this information, for example, to see what pages are of most interest to our visitors. 
  • When you use the "Contact Us" form we record only the information you provide on the form plus, if you are logged in, your username. 
  • When you register, we record the information you provide on the registration form:
    • Username, Full Name, E-Mail Address, Company/Organisation Name, Date of Registration
    • (Optionally) Telephone Number, Divsion in Company, Country, Job Title, Industry Sector
  • Subsequent to registration we also record:
    • Date/time of account activation
    • Date/time of last login and the IP addressed used
    • Number of times you have logged in
    • Whether you wish to receive e-mails with product update information
    • Which customer group(s), if any, you belong to. A customer group is the mechanism by which we give you access to various product downloads.  Typically a customer group will be a company or a project within a company that has purchased our products and is therefore entitled to download software and updates.
  • When you download documents or software, we record:
    • Your username
    • The document/software you downloaded
    • The date/time you downloaded it
    • The IP address from which you requested the downloaded

We do not pass any of this information to third parties except, under some circumstances to IBM as described in "General" above.

Syndicated IBM Content

As explained above, when you navigate to the sections of this web site under:

you will be entering a syndicated marketing component provided by IBM.  This section of the site displays a panel that  has a distinctive IBM look and feel. Any information that you enter while in that section of the site will be visible to both Abstract Solutions and IBM. However, IBM will not have visibility of any of the information we collected from you in the remainder of the Abstract Solutions site.

Cookies are used in this section of the web site.  These are entirely separate from the cookies in the mainsite described above and there is no cross-referencing of the cookie information between the two sections of the site.

Within the syndicated IBM content, a persistent cookie is used to be able to identify return visitors to that section of the site. If you provide contact information while in that section of the site (First Name, Last Name, Title, Company, E-Mail address) then this information is stored with the cookie and is used to pre-populate forms within that section of the web site when you revisit.

Information provided in this section of the web site may be used by Abstract Solutions or IBM and its partners to contact you or for other marketing purposes. This may include the sending of marketing e-mails that contain mechanisms for open and click tracking so that Abstract Solutions or IBM and its partners can tell if you have read the e-mails  and/or clicked on links within them.
